North Pole express

The day after Thanksgiving Terry and Ronda surprised all the grandkids with a trip on the North Pole Express out of Heber City. We all had a fun time and it got us all in the Christmas mood.

Before leaving all the kids got new pajamas to wear on the excursion.

Can't believe June is over already. Here's a few pic's from the month:

We had our 7th annual guest appreciation breakfast on the 18th. It was finally nice weather this year. We figure we fed nearly 600 people, and had a lot of fun doing it.

Tyler and I went down to Blanding and ran in the first annual Huff to Bluff marathon. As far as marathons go it was a lot of fun. The scenery, weather, people were all great. Here's a few pictures from the trip down.

Tyler and I started laughing the night before when we got our running clothes out and discovered that we had matching outfits for the run. What are the odds? Then during the run a lady asked us if we had planned our outfits to match. Really lady?

It was a fun trip and a nice course. I wouldn't mind doing that one again. Maybe we'll shoot for H2B 2012. The only thing I'd change is to make sure that Tyler and I do coordinate so that we DON'T have the same outfit.

It's sure a lot of fun to see your kids growing up and accomplishing things that they set their minds to. Here's a couple things that they've been up to lately... Ty just finished the requirements and passed the test for his Orange belt in Karate. Here's Ty with a couple of his Karate instructors. They've done a great job with him.

He's really worked hard to earn his belts. It's been a lot of fun to see.

Tristyn is a finalist in the seventh grade officer runnings. Here's a couple posters she (and Mom and Grandma) made to hang up at school.

Temples

This last conference President Monson spoke a lot about temples and how important they are. I'm grateful to a wonderful Mother who understands this and recently took Tristyn there to do baptisms now that she's 12. She had a wonderful experience. Thanks Mom for taking her and for the pictures. The next time we can go to the Ogden temple it will look a lot different following all the renovations.

Happy Birthday a few days late Tristyn. We sure love you. About a week before her birthday the young women came over to our house and surprised her by waking her up and taking her to breakfast.

Aloha 2011

Aloha! We went on an Associated Foods sponsored trip. We had such a good time. We spent 6 days on the big island, and 3 on Oahu. This is a long post, but there were too many fun pictures not to share. Tracey and Ty getting ready for the long flight over.

We went on a little snorkling adventure on the third day. Here the kids got to drive the boat for a minute.

Here's our snorkling boat crew. They were very helpful the whole time. We saw some awesome coral and some pretty cool fish. The best part is I didn't get sea-sick this time.

We took a walk on this beach that they only let a few people on per day. We saw turtles everywhere. These two were up sunning on the beach. That was pretty cool to see them.

This is one of the coolest things the kids have ever done. At our hotel they had a place where the kids could interact with the dolphins. They both loved it so much. Ty was just beside himself giggling the whole time, and Tristyn couldn't quit smiling for quite a while afterwards.

They both got a chance to kiss the dolphin.

Ty could have spent all day just at the hotel water slides. That was one of his favorite things besides the dolphins.

They had a really cool lagoon right there at the hotel that you could snorkel at or take out some water toys. We saw a bunch of turtles in there as well as a lot of cool tropical fish. Here's Tristyn and her friend Brittany (she met her two years ago when we went to Hawaii and they were there again, they have a store up in Malad Idaho)

This is over in Oahu at Pearl Harbor. This is aboard the battleship Missouri. The circle Tristyn is standing by is the place where the treaty was signed that ended the war with the Japanese.

This is on the dock by the battleship Missouri. That's the Arizona memorial in the background. It was closed the first night when we got there so we went back the next morning to catch the tour out there.

We spent a day at the Polynesian culure center. That was sure a cool experience. That night they had a show called "the breath of life". Here's the family after the show with the main actor. The girls really liked him for some reason...

These two were also in the show. If you ever get a chance to see that show it's worth your time. We were all very impressed. Throughout it had lots of the cultural dances, and traditions.

The temple is located really close to the cultural center so that was fun to go over and see the beautiful temple grounds.

We had a wonderful time. It's nice to be home though. What a beautiful place.

Ty had his gold belt test recently. He passed and moved from yellow belt to gold. He's done really well with his Karate so far. Here he is getting a clean shave in preparation for his big test.

Move over Jim Bridger. Jedediah Smith, there's a new top trapper in town. Kit Carson you may have done some good trapping but nothing like this. Sure you all trapped plenty of those furry little creatures, but have you ever trapped... This???

That's right. Impressed aren't you? I got this little beauty for Christmas. Just spray a little in that porcelain bowl and eliminate all odor. The most effective trapper in history....yes it actually works. The most thoughtful gift I've ever received.

We had our yearly rendition of the Christmas pageant at Mom and Dad's again this year. Dad filled his role nicely by painting mustaches and beards on all the kids. Mom directed, and played the piano. It's always nice to get time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Savior. Thanks Mom and Dad.

Ty was thrilled to get to play the part of the King (a.k.a. one of the wise men)

Tristyn was able to play Mary this year. I'm not sure Mary had braces, but I thought Trist did a wonderful job.

Lake Powell 2010

We had the chance to go to Lake Powell with Tracey's family for one last summer fling. We had a blast as always and hated coming back. Thanks again Keith and Fawna. Here's a few pictures from some of the fun we had.

The kids could have spent all day going down the slide on the houseboat and been perfectly happy.

Trying to learn how to surf behind the boat. That was a lot of fun. Once you get it down you let go of the rope and can just follow behind the boat, surfing in the wake. I never got quite that far.

We were asking Ty how kindergarten was going and we got this story from him. He was going to the bathroom in the urinal (he hasn't learned how to do it yet without pulling his pants down to his ankles) and some bigger boys came in and starting making fun of him because they could see his bum. When he finished he went over to them and said, "Oh yea, well my dog is better than your dog." (That'll show 'em Ty) Then he stomped on their toes and walked out of the bathroom. ......I hope he survives kindergarten!

We had the opportunity to go to Manti over the weekend and do a little camping. We had a great time! Here are a few pictures from all the fun we had.

We had our sixth annual Customer appreciation breakfast Saturday at the store. We figured we fed somewhere between 500-600 people. It was a lot of fun even though we had to brave a little cool weather and a few raindrops. Thanks to the Valley for all of your support. Biggest Loser

We were at the mall the other night for Tracey's birthday (Happy birthday babe) and Ali Vincent from the biggest loser was there with her mom. She's the one that won it a couple of seasons ago. That is Tracey's favorite show, and when we were walking by they were just getting ready to finish so there was only a couple of people in line. We decided to stop and meet her. Ty and Tristyn thought it was pretty cool to meet somebody that was "famous". Ty hung on to her autographed picture all night.

So we have this little thing at our house that when the kids are fighting they have to go sit in the corner together and hug. It's quite humorous really. Tristyn hates it and Ty loves it. So while they are hugging Ty will antagonize Tristyn even more so that more time gets added on. Tristyn wouldn't even look at me because she was crying, while Ty couldn't stop grinning. This little hug session lasted around 11 minutes from the original 5 because of the extra antagonizing. I had to walk into the other room because I couldn't stop laughing at the difference in the two attitudes. Now if only this would work for Tracey and I.

Somebody sent me this in an e-mail and I couldn't stop laughing. Honestly if you did drink you certainly wouldn't stop after seeing this. If you didn't drink, I think I'd start just for some extra insurance that my lips never touched theirs. "Oh I'm sorry sweety I'd love a kiss...but I drink liquor and I'll never ever stop!" I would walk around with a bottle in my hand from that day forward.

Farm day

For a field trip the other day we got to tour the local dairy farm with Ty's class. He got to feed some of the baby calves, and watch the cows getting milked. Some of the calves were less than a day old. The kids had a lot of fun. Here's a few pictures from the tour...

Karate Kid

Now that Ty is taking Karate I thought it would be fun to rent the old Karate Kid movie and watch with the family. We all enjoyed the show, and I was taken back to my childhood quite often. I remember practicing that swan kick over and over. Anyway the next day I was going over Ty's karate with him and was rehearsing with him how we never use karate unless somebody is trying to hurt us. His teachers have been teaching that to him as well as his mother and I. Finally with an exasperated expression on his face he looked at me and said, "Dad, would you just relax. I think I know when to use my karate." Well, okay then. I guess that'll teach me to try and teach him anything. So sorry Mr. Miyagi! Maybe I need to have him go wax my cars. Wax on, wax off, wax on.....

I decided to go out for a little afternoon run while Ty was in pre-school yesterday. It was a nice day for a run and I was feeling pretty good about my speed, etc. I turned a corner to go down this one street and saw one of those "Your speed" signs. The ones that tell you how fast your going and how fast you should be going. I started speeding up a little just for fun to see if I would register on it. Suddenly this 16 flashed up on the sign. I got this big 'ol grin and started thinking thoughts like "Boston marathon, here I come" etc. I had my earphones in and so I was a little startled when suddenly a car passed by me and my dreams got a quick dose of reality. It was the car that had registered and not me. Oh well, maybe I can still qualify for the senior division someday.

So now that the snow is all melted at our place our minds turn to spring clean up. With that comes the annual chore of cleaning up a backyard full of winter storage poop. It amazes me every year just how much poop one little beagle can poo during the winter months. You can't walk across the lawn without running into a land mine. It would make any WWII field general proud. And just when you think you got it all....wrong again! I swear as I walk around the yard with my overflowing 5-gallon bucket Freckles has a little smirk on his face as if to say "you're impressed with my work aren't you?" Nicely done Freckles, Nicely done!

Tracey left today with her sister, sister-in-laws, aunt, and mom to go to Hawaii. Mr. Mom time has begun. I've been with the kids alone before, just never this long. Not sure what to do with myself exactly. I've been practicing my peanut butter and jelly skills, but the kids are already sick of that. Good thing for restaurants. I keep looking at the page long list that was left, but it just leaves me confused. Ty's concerned that I don't sing as good as Mom. Tristyn is concerned that I don't do anything as good as Mom. I'm concerned that I may mess the house up too much (among other things). So here we are all waiting on a woman...so have fun, but hurry home. Anybody seen my apron? What's that stain on the couch? (just kidding)

bits of nostalgia

Do you ever get a little of that nostalgia hit you? I know I've made fun of Tracey for the time she's spent scrapbooking, but looking through the work she's done I realize what a special thing that is for our family. The other day Ty and I spent some time looking through some of the scrapbooks and I am so grateful for the time and talent that she's spent doing that.

My Mom made each of us a personal history up until the time that we left the house. Quite often I open that book and think of my childhood with fond memories. I think of the hours and hours that Mom spent on completing such a task (almost 400 pages) and I am ever grateful for her sacrifice. Thanks Mom! What a treasure.

Ty had his fifth birthday on Thursday. We can't believe how fast that has gone by. He's been wanting to take Karate forever so his first present he got to open from his Grandma and Grandpa Hancock was this Karate outfit. They also paid for his first Karate lesson that he took later that day. We love you Ty and are so glad you are part of our family. Here's a few pictures from his fun couple of days (aka "Ty-nukkah" which comes from an inside family joke of "Trace-ukkah" on account of the celebration lasting all week.)

Ty really enjoyed his first Karate class....Heaven help all of us.

Ty picked Ol' grist mill (of all places) for his dinner that night.

Ty wanted to go bowling for his birthday. Tracey and Tristyn had clogging so Dad got to take Ty and his buddy to Fat Cats for a mean game of bowling.

Next time you go bowling at Fat Cats you may find a ball or two with frosting on it.....Sorry.

We went to Toads the night after his birthday to celebrate with family. I think he rode this little ride about 10 times.

We had a fun few days up in Yellowstone last week. We went up with three other couples and their families and rented a cabin in West Yellowstone to stay in. We took snowmobiles and just had a blast. One day was spent in Yellowstone park and the rest of the days we would ride the trails around the area. It was a great time and we had a hard time leaving. Here's a few pictures from the fun we had.

This picture was taken on top of one of the mountains. It was a place called two top and the snow and wind made the trees have some of the most amazing formations. People called the trees "ghost trees" because of the way the snow made them look. That was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen.

Here's the cabin where we stayed. We had a big group but there was plenty of room. It was a nice cabin and we hated to leave.

At the bear and wolf discovery center they had quite a few wolves that you could check out. The wolves would come right up to the window and look at you. The kids got a kick out of watching them.

This was one of the bears at the bear and wolf discovery center. They would bury food under logs and rocks and then let the bears loose to find the food. They are sure impressive animals.

My brother Rob was at our house the other night and he got a bloody finger. He asked Ty to go and get him a band-aid. Ty quickly ran to the hall closet and came back with this bad boy. Not exactly what Rob had in mind, but I guess it could work. Right?

Fab Five and Jazz

A couple of Tristyns clogging teachers are members of the "Fab Five" made famous through Americas got talent show. They got asked to perform for the halftime show for the Jazz game Monday night so we decided we would head down as a family to check it out. We all had a lot of fun and the Jazz won again so life was good.

I was watching Ty play his Star Wars game on the Wii the other day. It's always quite entertaining the way he gets into it. He was really playing the role on this day. One of the characters that he was fighting (a woman) was talking before the light saber duel began-Ty was Anakin Skywalker- and she was saying "today you will die Skywalker." Ty didn't miss a beat as he looked at her with cool steely eyes and said "Not today you witch, not today." ...and then the duel began.

My little brother Steve got married over the weekend. Overall it was a nice day and a fun chance to spend time with the family. It was also fun to see all the old neighborhood as they came through that night for the reception.

Tristyn was able to be the flower girl. She did a great job dropping those rose petals.

Basin ski day

Tristyn's class got to go to Snow Basin for a day of skiing. I don't remember doing cool stuff like that. So anyway I hitched a ride with them and got to spend a fun day with Tristyn skiing. The weather was awesome and it was sure a lot of fun.

Have you ever been so close to something and yet it seemed so far away? Well such is my world ever since Ty got this cool Transformer for Christmas. I've literally spent a few hours on this bad boy and this is as close as I can get to transforming it into the truck. I've even consulted other "adults" and none of us have been able to figure it out. I tried again today and the only thing I got closer to was insanity. I didn't know that it was a requirement to be a rocket scientist in order to put the dang thing together. So don't be surprised if you see a partially transformed transformer for sale one of these days on ksl.com!

So I started playing this stupid game on my phone called "brick breaker" which I am now horribly addicted to for some unknown reason. Some of the side effects are 1. NEVER being satisfied with the results...kind of like a hummingbird always looking for a flower, but never finding it. 2. Dead legs every time I come out of the bathroom. 3. The realization that I may need to attend anger management courses every time I lose. 4. The discouragement of realizing I'm an addict of something. I'm looking in to some online BBA classes (brick-breakers anonymous) but no luck so far. Somebody please help!

Happy New Year! With the new year I can't help but think back on the past year and past New Years. I remember as a kid Mom would always stay up with us until midnight and then hand us all some pots and pans. When the clock struck midnight we would open the front door and bang our pots and pans and yell "Happy New Year!" I always had a lot of fun with our "poor people" fireworks. So here's to all the new year resolutions, all the wishes left unsaid. Happy New Year to all and if you hear the sounds of pots and pans along the wasatch front, you'll know now what that is.

I was thinking back on some of my favorite Christmas memories and remembered this as one of them. Every year we would play out the nativity scene as a family. Dad loved taking mascara and drawing mustaches on our faces.

Over Thanksgiving all of Tracey's family on her Mom's side headed down to California to spend the holiday together. We had a great time and was able to do a lot of fun things. Here's a few pictures from all the fun we had.

We got to go to the beach with Uncle Larry and work on our tans.

We spent extra time getting that turkey just right. There was only one accident that ended in a belly button burn.

It's a long standing rule in the Ferguson household that the guest bathroom is just that..for guests only. The kids have been told time and again not to use that bathroom because it's for "special" people. Well the other day I was in the kitchen and had a mother nature emergency and the closest bathroom was the guest bathroom. As I was in there I heard the pitter-patter of little feet coming down the hall when who should appear but Ty. He looked at me with an angry look and then asked in a very stern voice, "What are you doing? What, do you think you're special or something?" It took me a while to stop laughing. It's pretty bad when a man can't feel comfortable in a bathroom in his own home.

With Thanksgiving getting closer it's time to turn our thoughts to Christmas wishes. Brandon Mason showed me this unique gift the other day and I just wanted to put this out there for anyone that was struggling with an idea. Why not go with the Obama chia pet. No joke here, it's the gift that keeps on giving all year long. The best thing about the Obama chia is that you never have to water it. It simply takes the water from all the other plants in the house. So for that hard to buy for person that you just have a hard time figuring out what to give, get the obama chia...it's sure to make the best gift of the season.

Recently we got ourselves a couple of new kittens. With the passing of Po and Whiskers so soon we thought we'd try one more time. So meet Oreo and Tiger. They're not exactly what one would call tame right now, but they're getting better. The kids love them (when they can catch them) so I guess that's all that matters. We still miss Po and Whiskers, but are excited to have Oreo and Tiger with our family now.

Mom and Dad had their annual Halloween dinner for us the other night. It was a lot of fun as usual. You have to choose from a menu of fifteen items and break them into three courses of five. Problem is you don't know what you're really getting so you often end up with dessert first or your main course with no utensils. Here's a few pictures from the night.

Eating the menu which consisted of "diaper dump", "slithering creatures", "bloody eyeball", "rotted compost", just to name a few.

Just shoes?

Recently Tristyn grew out of her old tap shoes so we had to go and buy some new ones. We decided to put her old ones up for sale. Seems like a simple thing, selling an old pair of shoes. I got to thinking what was really in those shoes. I saw in those shoes the hours upon hours of practice, the sweat and tears that those practices brought. I saw the dedication of her mother in taking her to all of those lessons and competitions. I saw the joy in accomplishing a goal, the dissapointment in falling a little short. I saw much more than just an old pair of shoes, I saw my little girl getting just a little bit older, a little bit further from being a little girl and a little closer to being a young woman. Maybe I'm in a sentimental mood, but I saw a lot more than just an old pair of shoes.

Corn maze

I was able to go with Ty on his pre-school fieldtrip over to the fish farm in North Ogden where they had a little corn maze for the kids to go through. After the maze (which was more like a trail through a cornfield than a maze) we were able to have a little picnic lunch. All in all it was a lot of fun to hang out. It's always fun to watch the kids interact with each other, lots of laughs.

Friday we got to do a little 4-wheelin' with Tracey's family. We went up near porcupine reservoir in cache valley. It was sure a fun ride with beautiful scenery with all the leaves changing.

Lake Powell '09

We were able to go to Lake Powell last week for one final summer fling. It was a blast as always and we all came back wishing we had more time there. Here's a few pictures of the fun we had.

Don't underestimate the simple fun of going to the the ballpark to watch the local ball club play. We got the chance the other night and we all had a great time. Tristyn loved being a mother to Randy's boy Jacob.

Ty loved Oggie the Raptors mascot.

We all loved the fireworks that followed the game.

Of course then we had to go to Farr's for our favorite....Butt Finger blast. (This wasn't really Farr's but I thought it was funny, maybe they ought to change that sign)

I was at Tristyns soccer practice the other night and one of Tristyns friends Mom came up to me laughing about something that had happened at her house while Tristyn was over playing. I guess Tristyn had on some of her new fancy shoes that she was trying to break in and she was walking around in obvious discomfort. As she passed this Mom overheard her saying to herself "beauty hurts, beauty hurts" over and over. I don't know where she heard that but yes I guess sometimes beauty hurts sweetheart. I got a good laugh out of that one. We love our little princess!

Fifth grade fun

Tristyn started fifth grade last week and I couldn't help but think back to my fifth grade experience. I think my friends and I spent the whole summer planning on ways to be ultra devious. We had an entire pencil box dedicated to such equipped with all the finest trouble making paraphernalia such as tacks for chairs, stink bombs, firecrackers, etc.. We were every teachers biggest nightmare. The long awaited first day of school arrived and within five minutes of opening bell the fun had started. I had targeted one particular girl (Charise) that I thought had it coming and put a well placed tack on her chair to start the class. Sure enough as she sat down she jumped back up screaming. I don't know how the teacher knew it was me...maybe the fact that I was laughing hysterically while everyone else was just kinda wondering what happened. After a little investigative work our little trouble box was discovered and our fun was over about as quickly as it started. The rest of the year just wasn't the same after that. However it was fun to watch Charise double check her chair for the rest of the year.

Bountiful harvest....a little early

I was out mowing in the backyard while Ty was playing when I decided to do the 15-minute check. As I came up by where our peach trees are Ty was proudly standing by a pile of peaches. "Look Dad I picked some apples", he proudly stated. We were looking forward to our little peach harvest as this would have been the first year. We had a nice harvest of 26 peaches, just happened to be about a month too soon. I'll bet next year they'll sure taste good.

Hancock reunion

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Hancock reunion at the North Shore pool that they rented out for the night. It was a lot of fun to get together and mingle a little. This is Terry's brother Val and his wife Joann. Terry's folks died when he was pretty young and he was raised partly by Uncle Val and his family. They're all such good people and have always been so kind and accepting.

Pepe le' Pew

I believe Pepe le' Pew has moved to West Weber. Freckles has seemed awfully uncomfortable lately and has quite often shown up with some unexplained gifts that nobody knows where they came from. Freckles is brown and black with with patches of white but at night time that can be hard to tell from black with white stripes. I got home the other night only to be met with a horrible stench that filled my nostrils. Freckles had been sprayed again. The second time in the last couple of months. I don't know if Pepe knows Freckles is a boy (those French are weird) but I'm getting sick of the perfume baths.

Fruit pizza, what the....

The other night Tracey made this wonderful fruit pizza. It had some great fresh fruit toppings such as Kiwi...

and it was quite the treat. The kids had never had this before and as Tracey was dishing it out she put a slab of it on Ty's plate...

Ty looked at it and then looked at us and said "what the hell is that?" I had to walk out of the room so he wouldn't see me laughing. You just don't expect certain things coming out of such a small "innocent" mouth. Who knows where he came up with that. We tried to ignore it so he wouldn't keep saying it. I can just see him saying it in the next sharing time. It was a great treat however, even if Ty didn't know what the ____ it was.

Driving test and Millcreek

We were going camping last week up to millcreek in the uintahs and we thought before we went that we would like Tristyn to take a little 4-wheeler class that certifies them to ride on their own. The class is offered up around Willard by Willard Bay. This is Tristyn out on the driving course.

Tristyn lined up with her class waiting to go out on the course. She passed with flying colors and was so proud of herself. We were really proud of her too. Now she is officially a licensed driver.

Up at Millcreek we had a variety of weather. This was one of the days we got a little sunshine.

This was an overlook on one of the rides we went on. If you're wondering yes that is a new fashion statement Tracey is making. Beach towel that doubles as a scarf.

This was an old cabin we found overlooking a beautiful meadow. It was starting to fall apart, the roof had caved in and there was quite a few spots where the walls were giving way. You couldn't help but wonder who used to live there and what their life might have been like. It was gorgeous scenery up there and we were able to see quite a few moose and deer. We sure had fun and are grateful for the chance to enjoy this beautiful country we live in.

T.O.T. (times of Ty)

Here's some recent activities that Ty has been a part of without his sister. He played his first year of t-ball this year and had a great time. If you're ever in need of comic relief go to a 4-year old t-ball game. Guaranteed laughs!

unrealized potential

I went to the cannery last night to help can some beans and before we could go in they gave us all hair nets. I've never been so thankful that I didn't have facial hair however because all the guys that did had to wear one of these beauties...the beard net. I had a hard time focusing on the task at hand because I was laughing too much at all the guys that had to wear one of these. Somewhere amidst my laughter my mind started thinking about all the other uses one could have for one of these bad boys, and I realized the untapped potential of the beard net. For instance.....

The polygamist wife impromptu bonnet for special occasions when the regular bonnet is in the wash and company comes over.

The mullet net for all those times when your mullet is getting in your face such as cooking outdoors or riding a motorcycle. Free enough that wind will pass right through but rigid enough to hold your mullet in place when white rain alone won't do the trick.

The pet jock strap. You know they would ask for one if they could. Why do you think they're always itching and scratching there? Too much freedom causes irritation. These are a few of my favorites. I welcome your suggestions as I feel that I haven't even scratched the surface of possibilities.

Melon Mania

Jon and I were throwing some melons out at the 'ol VM the other day when a man approached us and asked me to pick him out a good watermelon. I live for these moments. All my 15+ years of training and background kicked in as I started inspecting the melons for the perfect one. The man asked me if I knew how to pick out a good one and so I proceeded to tell him all the tricks and tips I had learned over the years. Finally settling on one that I felt would be good I handed it to the man with satisfied pride. "This ought to be a good one" I told the man. He took the melon from me and set it down amongst the other melons and picked up a different one. "I like this one better" he informed me, "it's round". He grabbed his melon and left. Jon and I were left speechless. So apparently that's all it takes. It just needs to be round. I could have saved myself a lot of time over the years just looking for the round ones. At least now I know.

Rodeo time

It's been a family tradition every year around the 24th to go to the Ogden pioneer days rodeo. It's a chance to mingle with some of Weber Counties finest and to enjoy a nice evening together. I was a little dissapointed this year as we didn't get to see any drunk individuals spill their beer on the lady in front of them like last year (although we still saw plenty of drunk people). We also didn't have the privelege of having any selfish smokers nearby for me to throw peanuts at. All in all though it was a good time. Here's a few of the pictures we got from the evening.

Mighty mouse

One of my favorited cartoons as a kid was Mighty Mouse. I marveled at how such a small creature could do such big things. I finally met mighty mouse the other day. After we got home from the uintahs last week we had stopped to dump out the "dump" out of the trailer and I noticed two little eyes staring at me from the grill of the truck. On closer inspection I saw this little guy and his friend hanging out in the grill. They had made it all the way from Whitney reservoir clear back to Ogden. Over two hours of driving. Very impressive. So next time somebody tells you you can't do something think of mighty mouse.

CHAMPIONS.....(almost)

Tristyn's softball team made it into the county championship game. We played our arch rival and nemesis and lost in a very close, competetive contest, 24-0 give or take a run or two (maybe they'll fire the coach). I only called the other coach on twice during the game. For some reason she wouldn't meet me by the flagpole after the game- chicken. I was very proud of the girls and the good year they had. They all improved over the year and I think most of them had a little fun along the way. So for this year we'll take second place with a smile...but they better look out next year.

We had the opportunity to go camping this last weekend with some friends (thanks James and Jennifer for the invite) up to Whitney reservoir in the uintahs. We sure had a blast! Here's a few pictures from the fun we had (yes that is Tracey camping, I was proud of her for "roughing" it).

This was some of the kids hanging out in the mosquito tent. There were certain times of the day when the bugs got pretty bad so this tent was nice to have.

This was overlooking Whitney reservoir from up on the mountain. The scenery was awesome.

After saving forever we finally got the rest of our sport court in yesterday. I've been a little excited to get this in. This is what we call Christmas in July. I've already invited Roger over for a little tennis and D-Will for some hoop...haven't heard back from either one yet, but I'm sure they'll call. So free up your schedules, we're going to have a volleyball/basketball/tennis/badmitton tourney...just make sure to bring your game and your mosquito repellant.

Work and stuff

Talking yesterday with some friends and the conversation came up about what a blessing it is to be able to work and stuff (see sign below). In this age of entitlement I'm so grateful for parents who taught us that it was a privelege to be able to work, and how to work hard. There are so many great experiences I've had and the chance to meet so many wonderful people that I never would have had were it not for work.

Here's some fun we had at work earlier in the summer at our guest appreciation breakfast.

Sad that so many in the country feel like this...

Recently West Weber had a little sesquicentennial celebration. They've been doing several little events with a culmination to come on the 4th of July. They had a lot of fun things for the kids to do and overall it was a lot of fun. It got me to thinking how blessed we are to live in this great country, and how many people have sacrificed so much so that we may enjoy the things that we do. God bless America! Thank you to all those who have given so much to make this country great!
